Making time for my family
There are two main people in this picture, who, without them, none of us would be here (well, two would be, just in different circumstances).
My parents decided to move to the States back in the 90’s, yes, the 90’s, older than some who are reading this now. They took a leap of faith! by some chance physiotherapy magazine mum had received in the post. The magazine would post job openings all over the world, and with my dad driving up to London to work on the up-and-coming terminal a few times a week, it was getting tiresome. So my mum one day said to my dad, “Fancy moving to America?”…..That’s all it took.
Now, they are heading back home. After cough, thirty years, cough, cough, they have decided that it is the right time to pack up one home and head home to the other. So these past couple of months, I have been trying to spend as much time as I could with them. Trying desperately not to get emotional, because let’s face it, my parents are some of my favourite people. They are the life of the party, my dad brings the entertainment with his energetic self, and my mum brings the food (sausage rolls & banoffee pie, anyone?).
It has been difficult to see everything packed up, sent for donation, or thrown away, but it is needed. They are ready! funny, because I have been talking about moving home for most of my time here, but especially more recently, in the last few years. M&D say that all my talks & my dreams of moving home definitely sparked their interest in moving back. With both of them retired, nothing is stopping them, lucky!!
My oldest brother travels for work, currently on tour with Kylie Minogue, but he is NOT a backup dancer=) I tell people, the easiest way to describe what he does is he makes the stage/host move. So if you see Kylie up there in mid-air on a swing, yeah, that’s my brother doing that =) He’s a programmer, an automation technician, and a pretty good one at that. He travels to places that I could never imagine and only dream about. He is currently in the process of buying property in Edinburgh, so he isn’t based in the U.S. anymore.
My middle brother & his wife have dreams of one day living the island life, but for now, they are happily settled in good ol’ Track Town USA (Eugene, Oregon).
Our family is so spread out, but the majority of my family lives in the UK, and that people is where my heart & soul belong!
